From 8 to 11 September, representatives of Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija HEI (LIK HEI) visited Glasgow, United Kingdom, to take part in the international higher education conference EAIE 2026. Every year, the event brings together representatives of higher education institutions and educational organisations from around the world, making it a great place to meet, exchange experiences and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
LIK HEI was represented at the conference by Dr Simona Pilkienė, Deputy Director for Academic Activities, and Audrius Lukoševičius, Student Welfare Advisor.
Together with other Lithuanian higher education institutions and the “Study in Lithuania” team, LIK HEI presented study opportunities in Lithuania and introduced the Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija HEI to an international audience. However, the four days in Glasgow were about much more than presenting the LIK HEI – a large part of the conference was dedicated to conversations and meetings with colleagues from different countries.
During the conference, LIK representatives met with both existing and potential partners and discussed student and staff mobility, joint projects and other opportunities for cooperation. These face-to-face meetings are especially valuable, as sometimes a single conversation at a conference can become the beginning of a long-term partnership.
EAIE 2026 was also a valuable opportunity to make new connections and hear directly from higher education institutions in other countries – to learn about their current priorities, the challenges they face and the ways international higher education is changing.
At LIK HEI, the aim is for internationalisation to be more than something reflected in documents or statistics. Most importantly, students should experience its benefits directly – through opportunities to study or undertake internships abroad, meet students from different countries, gain international experience and feel more confident when planning their professional future.
LIK HEI representatives returned from Glasgow not only with new contacts, but also with new ideas and conversations that are worth continuing. EAIE 2026 may be over, but the cooperation that began there is only just getting started.
