ACE²-EU: LIK Students Participate in an ABC Programme in Portugal

From February 2–6, LIK students are participating in the international ACE²-EU alliance programme “Blue Bioeconomy – Algae for Food Innovation”, taking place in Portugal at Santarém Polytechnic University.

This is an applied, challenge-based blended learning programme (Applied Blended Challenge, ABC) that brings together students from 9 European universities. During the programme, students work in international teams to address real-life challenges related to the development of algae-based, sustainable food ingredients and the advancement of the blue bioeconomy.

At present, participants are deepening their knowledge of algae and aquatic biomass cultivation technologies, their nutritional value, applications in the food industry, and innovative solutions that connect science, technology, and sustainability. On the first day of the programme, students explored microalgae technologies in practice – from cultivation processes to real-world applications in food innovation. Hands-on activities and expert insights helped participants better understand how theoretical knowledge can be transformed into practical, market-relevant solutions.
