ACE²-EU: LIK Students Explore the Potential of Grape Bioactive Compounds in Madrid

From 28 September to 2 October, Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid (Spain) is hosting the ACE²-EU Applied Blended Challenge (ABC) “Grapes and Health: Exploring the Nutritional and Therapeutic Potential of Their Bioactive Compounds”. Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija HEI students Giedrė Andrulienė, Titas Kisieliauskas, Benas Žabas and Domas Jančiukas are taking part in the programme.

The programme explores bioactive compounds found in grapes and grape-processing by-products – including polyphenols, flavonoids, resveratrol, anthocyanins and tannins – and their effects on the human body. Students are expanding their knowledge of the properties of these compounds and exploring opportunities to apply scientific knowledge in practice.

During practical activities in Madrid, participants extract, characterise and analyse grape bioactive compounds in laboratories, work in international interdisciplinary teams and visit the Virgen de la Viña winery, where they learn about grape cultivation and processing. At the end of the programme, the teams will present their ideas for potential applications of grape bioactive compounds in functional nutrition, dietary supplements and functional foods.
