From 19 to 23 October, Goce Delcev University in North Macedonia is hosting the ACE²-EU Alliance Applied Blended Challenge (ABC) “Functional Food: When Science Meets Bioeconomy and Creates Health Lifestyle”, attended by Lietuvos inžinerijos kolegija student Deividas Zalieckas.

The programme will focus on functional food development, bioeconomy principles and the use of food industry by-products to create healthier and more sustainable products. Students will explore how materials generated during the processing of grapes, berries, olives and oilseed crops can be used to develop new food products and beverages containing valuable bioactive compounds.

During the on-site week, participants will work at the UNILAB laboratory of Goce Delčev University's Faculty of Agriculture, where they will learn about wine chemistry, fermentation processes, edible oil quality assessment and food analysis. Through practical sessions, students will learn to identify and analyse bioactive compounds, including anthocyanins, flavonoids, resveratrol and other biologically active substances. The programme will also include visits to local wineries, practical workshops and meetings with specialists.
